Reason for treatment:
When he was young, Kareem was a very active boy. He loved to play football with his friends. At the age of 14, his family members noticed that his walking became unsteady. He had to quit playing his favorite sports, because it became very difficult to run in a straight line.
Later, Kareem started feeling weakness in his knees, and now would fall on uneven surface or if he would try to go up the steps. Kareem was diagnosed with ataxia, with secondary to cerebellar hypoplasia.
Kareem wasn't the only one in his family suffering from ataxia. His brother Mouayad also suffered from the same symptoms. Both brothers were diagnosed with hereditary ataxia.
It was very important for the family to find suitable treatment for both boys. Their father searched for different options, eventually deciding on Beijing Puhua International hospital for treatment.
Condition before treatment
Upon arrival in Beijing, Kareem had to undergo several genetic tests, in order to allow our medical team to understand his condition better. During the examination, Kareem was cooperating with Beijing Puhua International hospital's medical team, and even though it was hard for him to walk, even with assistance, he would try very hard to perform this task.
Kareem would get tired easily. He was experiencing poor coordination, muscle weakness. He would feel tired and unstable while standing or sitting.
Method of treatment
Stem cell implantations, Daily IV of medicines, neural nutrition and protection as well as Physical and Occupational Therapy sessions, Traditional Chinese Medicine, Acupuncture
Condition after the treatment
During the treatment Kareem's condition gradually improved.
Both Kareem and his brother (who has arrived for a treatment at the same time), had good improvements following stem cell implantations. Kareem now can stand and walk with more confidence.
He has developed better control of his body, and also improved his sense of balance. Kareem feels less tired and can walk longer distances. During his stay at the hospital, Kareem and his family visited the Great Wall of China and Tiananmen Square. All family members they enjoyed the trip very much, and Kareem was able to walk the wall unassisted.
We wish Kareem and his brother all the best, and hope to see further improvements in their conditions. |
