REASON FOR TREATEMNT
Amna was initially presented with a progressive weakness in her left arm. With the progression of the disease, Amna's right hand had become weak as well, and later muscular weakness spread to all her limbs.
Her condition continued deteriorating and the treatment offered in Amna's native Libya could not halt the progression of the disease. That made Amna and her husband to search for advanced treatment methods worldwide.
Following recommendations from another ALS patient from Libya ? Abdul Wahed, who had received significant improvements with stem cell treatment in our hospital, Amna and her husband made a decision to try stem cells implantation in Beijing Puhua International hospital.
CONDITION BEFORE TREATMENT
Before stem cell treatment, Amna's muscles presented with atrophy. She had difficulty using her hands while performing all daily activities.
Amna had difficulty walking, as she felt weakness in her legs. While walking, Amna would drag her feet.
Upon admission, Amna had problems swallowing.
The fast progression of Amna's condition has affected her speech, which became unclear and quiet, and limited her communication. Due to her slow and slurred speaking, Amna was incomprehensible to people outside her family.
While lying down, Amna usually felt shortness of breath.
METHOD OF TREATMENT
Stem cell implantations, Daily IV of medicines, neural nutrition and protection as well as Physical and Occupational Therapy sessions, Traditional Chinese Medicine, acupuncture.
CONDITION AFTER TREATMENT
After stem cell treatment Amna's condition has improved. While her main goal was to slow down deterioration, as the 5 weeks of the treatment passed, Amna felt stronger and her gait has improved significantly.
Amna was no longer dragging her feet while walking, and she is now able to go up and down the stairs more easily.
Amna's regained more strength in all her limbs; it is now easier for her to lift up both her arms, especially on the right side.
Due to better muscle stength, Amna can now do more during the occupational and physical therapy sessions, with better fluidity of movements.
Amna's speech became louder and clearer than it was at admission. It is easier for others to understand her now. Amna's swallowing has also improved, and her breathing is better.
