BEGINNING OF TREATMENT: July 15th 2009
CONDITION BEFORE THE TREATMENT: Cerebral palsy has affected Jake's motor development, speech, and his muscle tone, which resulted in growing up requiring personal assistance for all daily activities. Nowadays Jake gets around with the help of a powered wheel chair, and need support with all physical activities. Jake is a bright young man of 12, whose mental abilities are not affected by Cerebral Palsy at all.
Although treatment options in his native U.K. have been limited, Jake's parents have tried a lot of things prior to looking for treatment overseas. Jake has undergone surgery, is regularly attending physiotherapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy, but all these were not enough to improve his condition to a desired affect. Conventional therapy had limited progress aspects.
After learning about stem cell treatment, Jake's family has decided to gather money and go to China, hoping to achieve a better quality of life and more independence for their son.
Jake, an intelligent and lively boy, has set up on a road to China, while gathering support from all over the country, both monetarily and mentally.
You may read of Jake's trip and treatment in his blog, at www.justjake.me.uk

Jake's condition is described as spastic tetraplegia, which means that all his limbs are affected by the condition, and he needs full support performing any physical activity.
After admission, several therapies were applied while treating Jake, such as providing enough nutrients for his neural system allowing neural cells activation, alongside rehabilitation therapy and traditional Chinese medicine.
After treatment Jake and his father noticed improvement in his speech, his muscle tone has decreased. He is now able to control his upper forearm better than before and raise himself slightly into a sitting position; the movement range in his knee has increased as well.
Upon leaving the hospital Jake said that he is looking forward to seeing his mom, eating home cooked food, and seeing improvements that will help him control his body easier, and hopefully allowing him to achieve all the goals he sets up for himself. |
