REASON FOR TREATMENT: In 2004 after initially being diagnosed with Parkinson's, Voda was re-diagnosed with MSA, an aggressive and generally considered untreatable degenerative disease. With very few options at hand, he decided to come to China for stem cell treatment.
BEGINNING OF TREATMENT: November 11th, 2007
TREATMENT: 4 stem cell injections via lumbar puncture + nutritious stem cell cocktail treatment (intravenous).
CONDITION BEFORE THE TREATMENT:
At arrival in Beijing, Voda's speech had deteriorated to the point where approximately two out of ten words were intelligible. He was wheelchair bound and unable to walk at all or stand without aid. His balance had also been effected by his disease, making it difficult for him to walk, although he was still able to take a few steps on his own. Any basic tasks were slow and very difficult for Voda to complete. Because he was stiff and unable to make larger movements, it was difficult for him to get in and out of bed by himself or in and out of chairs. It was also difficult for him to manage his daily chores like dressing and putting his shoes on. Voda needed daily assistance in order to complete his daily tasks, his family helped him move, eat, dress, get around and get to bed at night. His disease had also reached the point where it had begun to effect his respiratory system, making it difficult for him to breathe and making his condition critical.
AFTER THE TREATMENT:
As is the case with most patients, some days were harder for Voda than others. The intense treatment could be tiring. In the end though, Voda experienced some of the changes he was hoping for when he decided to come to China for treatment. The main improvements for Voda were changes in his speech and dexterity. He was able to pronounce more of his words making it easier for him to communicate with his caregivers and tell them what he needed. He was also able to get around better because his mobility had increased and his balance was better. This meant that moving in and out of chairs or his bed had become easier and that he could walk further without having to rely on his wheelchair. Getting to the bathroom and moving around at home was therefore made a lot easier. Voda was also able to control his movements more, making it easier for him to get dressed, eat and do small things for himself. As he returned home, he and his family were optimistic about his progress and eager to continue working on achieving even better results in the near future.
